Maamanithan: Vijay Sethupathi’s family drama wins another international honour, Seenu Ramasamy is thrilled

Maamanithan, one of the long-delayed projects in Tamil, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, was released in June 2022. The film, which was completed a few years ago, was lying in the cans for a long time and faced multiple release postponements.

Nevertheless, there were good expectations on the project, as it marked the reunion of the actor and director Seenu Ramasamy. However, the movie opened to mixed reports and left no impact at the box office. Many people started appreciating it after its OTT premiere on aha Tamil, though. Its Telugu version, titled Mahamanishi, too, was dropped simultaneously.

The film then went on to bag a few international awards after it was screened at some of the countries abroad. The movie hit the headlines a few days ago as it was screened at the 29th Sedona International Film Festival in the USA.

The latest is that Maamanithan has won “Inspirational Feature Film Award” at the event, leaving its makers excited. Director Seenu, who was present at the festival, shared the excitement on his social media page and thanked those behind aha platform for helping him take the movie to several people.

A few pictures and videos from the 29th Sedona International Film Festival were doing the rounds in the last few days. Maamanithan is the first project which brought together Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. Gayathrie, Guru Somasundaram and KPAC Lalitha among others played important characters in the movie which revolves around a few unexpected events that happen in the life of a middle-class man.

M Sukumar and Sreekar Prasad have handled cinematography and editing respectively for the film which has lyrics penned by Vijay Thennarasu.
